How to choose the right suction for accurate pipetting?

Pipette heads can be divided into the following types: ordinary heads, filter heads, low adsorption heads and automatic workstation heads.

First, let’s introduce the common suction head. The most common type of suction head, is also the most widely used suction head, almost all pipette operation can be used, this is the most economical class of suction head, if there is no special requirements, the general use of standard suction head can meet most of the pipette needs. Other types of suction heads have also evolved from the standard common suction head.

Let’s introduce another common suction head with filter element. This suction head is usually used to remove blood samples, sputum samples, or other viscous, easily contaminated liquid samples. Due to its special filter design, it can effectively prevent liquid spill and cross contamination, and ensure the accuracy and reliability of the experimental results. In cases where precise pipetting is required, the suction head with filter element is a good choice.

Low adsorption head is another common pipette head type. It is suitable for experiments that require precision pipetting, especially liquids with small amounts of liquid or viscous fluids. The suction of the low adsorption head is smaller, which allows better control of the precision and accuracy of the pipette.

In addition, the low adsorption head is also suitable for situations where sample residues need to be avoided to ensure the purity of the experimental results.

The automatic suction head is a suction head specially adapted to work stations. Different from the ordinary suction head, the ordinary suction head usually has a special and general type, and the workstation suction head is usually a special, suitable for a brand a model, so it needs to be selected according to different models.

There are also extended suction heads made for specific experiments or containers. In some relatively long and narrow reaction vessels, the extended suction head can be more flexible operation to avoid the occurrence of contamination.

Because it is long, the space is often larger, and when the suction is mistakenly operated, the liquid column should not be quickly flushed upward to stain the cone head of the pipette.

The core of the automation system is still to ensure the accuracy of the pipette, it is necessary to ensure that the height of the suction head in the liquid is in the right position, to avoid the height is too high or too low, otherwise it will affect the accuracy of the pipette.

10 µL suction is suitable for 1-10 µL and intermediate range pipettes, usually it‘s white
200 µL suction is suitable for 20-200 µL and intermediate range pipettes, usually it‘s yellow
1000 µL, 1250 µL suction heads are suitable for 100-1000 µL pipettes, where 1000 µL suction heads are usually it‘s blue
The 5ml suction is suitable for 0.5-5ml pipettes
The 10ml suction is suitable for 1-10ml pipettes
