The selection and application of PP/HDPE reagent bottles

The selection and application of PP/HDPE reagent bottles

Reagent bottles can be used for the storage and transportation of special chemicals, diagnostic reagents, biological products, reagents, adhesives and veterinary drugs. At present, the material of reagent bottles is mostly glass and plastic, but glass is fragile and cleaning is more cumbersome. Therefore, the plastic reagent bottles with strong mechanical performance and acid and alkali corrosion have gradually become the popular choice in the market. High density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) are two commonly used plastic materials. How should we choose these two kinds of reagent bottles?

1. Temperature tolerance

HDPE material is resistant to low temperature and high temperature, so when low temperature storage is needed, more reagent bottles made of HDPE material are selected; PP material is resistant to high temperature and low temperature, when high temperature autoclave is required, the reagent bottle of PP material should be selected.

2.Chemical resistance

Both HDPE material and PP material are acid-alkali resistant, but HDPE material is better than PP material in terms of oxidation resistance. Therefore, in the storage of oxidizing reagents, such as benzene rings, n-hexane, chlorinated hydrocarbons and other organic solvents, HDPE material should be selected

3.Sterilization method

In the sterilization method, the difference between HDPE material and PP material is that PP can be sterilized at high temperature and high pressure, and HDPE can not. Both HDPE and PP materials can be sterilized by EO, irradiation (irradiation resistant PP is required, otherwise it will yellow) and disinfectant.

4.Color and transparency

The color of the reagent bottle is generally natural (translucent) or brown, brown bottles have excellent shading effect, can be used to store chemical reagents that are easily decomposed by light, such as nitric acid, silver nitrate, silver hydroxide, chlorine water, etc., natural bottles are used to store general chemical reagents. Due to the influence of molecular structure, PP material is more transparent than HDPE material, which is more conducive to observing the state of the material stored in the bottle.

Whether it is PP material or HDPE material reagent bottle, according to its material characteristics, there are suitable for the type of chemical reagents, so the characteristics of chemical reagents should be taken into account when selecting the reagent bottle.
